STUDENTS GET PRETTY IN PINK AND LAND £2K FOR CANCER CHARITY

Pretty in Pink Day 2008

Following a monumental fund raising effort, staff and students at Priestley College have landed over £2,000 for Cancer Research UK.

After many weeks of careful planning, students from the Society, Health and Development Diploma course alongside their tutor Rachel Walsh put on a day packed full of colour and fun at the Loushers Lane College.

In the build up to the event a number of high profile local businesses lended their backing to Pretty in Pink Day as Raddon Court, DataSpace, A.D.S Recycling Group, Falcon Security and Mark Brown (private donor) all contributed to the running total.

On the day itself all staff and students were asked to dress in pink clothing or be fined whilst there were traditional cake stalls, a tombola and raffle. The two main events took place in the afternoon as the lads took on the girls on the rugby league field for a match attended by Warrington mascot Wolfie and a Battle of the Bands also took place in the Wicked Cafe.

The money raised will now be sent to Cancer Research UK with the College hopeful it can help in the purchase of a brand new piece of medical equipment used in the treatment of this well known life threatening illness.

Commenting on the day, Rachel Walsh, said, "Although Pretty in Pink Day has taken place before, it has never been as big as this. When we began to plan the event it really gathered momentum, so much so that we had already met our target before the day took place thanks to the kind support of the donors from the world of Business."

Adding, "The sense of fun and enjoyment was clear for all to see and we were delighted to have raised over £2,000 for such a worthy cause whilst at the same time raising awareness of Cancer amongst our young people."
